What do you get when you mix the style of Leigh Bowery, the voice of Sylvester, the body of Divine and the electro-synths of Giorgio Moroder? Why, it's Italy's own Disco Queen Hard Ton of course! The latest addition to Gigolo Records, the label which discovered Tiga, Vitalic, Miss Kittin and Fischerspooner, is set to be the wildest Italian export since the Versace family. 1. Not only did I enjoy this current issue of V-Rag, I was impressed enough with Cole Johnston's review of Hard Ton's E.P. Selfish to track down the band of Youtube. With nods to Grace Jones on the cover art reinterpreting "Island Life" to the vocal gymnastics of Sylvester, and the over the top visual style of Divine, Hard Ton is an an example of everything old is new again, but that in itself is NOT a bad thing. We need to be reminded of the Dance Disco Heat past and this is all good!
